Transport forms a key focus area in the core operational priorities of the African Development Bank’s Ten-Year Strategy (2013–2022). The road sub-sector makes up the bulk of the Bank’s transport sector investments, funding the construction of national roads and major international corridors. Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) at the AfDB conducted an impact evaluation of the Fufulso-Sawla Road Project (FSRP) in Ghana. The project aimed to enhance accessibility along the Fufulso-Sawla Road and improve livelihoods in the project area of influence.
IDEV has carried out an evaluation of the Bank’s support to the energy sector for the period 1999-2018. During this period, the Bank committed nearly 18 billion USD to 306 projects in its Regional Member Countries (RMCs).
Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) is carrying out a cluster evaluation of eight African Development Bank (AfDB) transport projects approved during the period 2012-2019, with a total value of USD 803,3 million. Transport infrastructure development is one of the main priorities of the Bank. As a catalyst for its High 5s, it is at the core of the Bank’s strategy. Over the 2012-2019 period, the Bank approved 177 transport projects amounting to approximately USD 11.8 billion and representing 22% of funding for all sectors.
Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) at the African Development Bank (AfDB or “the Bank) is undertaking an evaluation of the Bank’s strategies and programs in Angola for the period 2011 - 2020. This evaluation covers two Country Strategy Papers, namely the 2011-2015 and 2017-2020 cycles. The Bank’s program for Angola for the period under review comprises 25 operations, including two private and 23 public operations, amounting to USD 2.53 billion (UA 1.8 billion).
Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) has carried out an evaluation of the Country Strategy and Program of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Egypt over the period 2009-2018. The evaluation covers a crucial period, namely pre-revolution, revolution, and post-revolution, during which the Bank supported the country with 53 projects focusing on infrastructure development, macroeconomic stabilization, and inclusive growth. At close to USD 2.5 billion, the portfolio in Egypt was among the AfDB’s top five country portfolios over the period.
Agriculture remains a priority sector in Malawi’s pursuit of economic transformation and poverty reduction, and the importance of irrigation in agricultural intensification is emphasized in the country’s development strategies such as the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy II and III. The Independent Development Evaluation has conducted an evaluation of the African Development Bank’s support to two irrigation infrastructure development projects in Malawi of UA 15 million each, completed in 2014 and 2017, respectively.
