On 4 August 2020, the APNODE Executive Committee voted to postpone the 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) originally planned to take place from 13-15 July 2020 in Rabat, Morocco to 2021. The decision to postpone the event, was due to the uncertainty around the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Executive Committee, having evaluated the situation, concluded that there was too much uncertainty in terms of health risks and travel restrictions. The 2021 dates will be communicated in due course.

The third edition of the International Francophone Forum on Evaluation (FIFE) took place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 12 to 15 November 2019. The forum, themed ‘Evaluation, for whose benefit and with which values?’ attracted participants from over 30 Francophone countries, including current and former Executive Committee members of APNODE.

The 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC2019) took place in Kampala, Uganda from 22 to 29 September 2019.  Themed ‘Adaptation, engagement, and evolution of parliaments in a rapidly changing Commonwealth’, the CPC2019 was an opportunity for over 500 Parliamentarians, parliamentary staff and decision makers from across the Commonwealth to benefit from supportive learning, professional development, and the sharing of best practices among colleagues.

The 2019 National Evaluation Capacities (NEC) Conference gathered 500 participants from 117 countries from 20 -24 October 2019 in Hurghada, Egypt. Themed ‘Leaving No One Behind: Evaluation for 2030’, the conference focused on the role of evaluation in supporting the UN’s Agenda 2030. The event provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on the challenges and solutions for building national evaluation frameworks that will facilitate inclusive development that leave no one behind, and that will help to monitor and report on progress towards the SDGs.

On 13 December 2019, the interim Executive Committee of the newly established Zambian National Chapter of APNODE held its inaugural meeting in Lusaka, Zambia. The meeting was chaired by Hon. Abidjan, 4 December 2018 – The Ivorian National Chapter of the African Parliamentarians’ Network on Development Evaluation (APNODE-CI) launched the first parliamentary forum on the evaluation of public policies. The theme of the forum was “Evaluations for Human Rights, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment”.

African Parliamentarians Engage in Evidence-Based SDG and Agenda 2063 Reporting

If Africa is to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it will require strengthened national evaluation capacities that respond to policies and frameworks leading to actionable goals. To this end, the continent is on a positive trajectory in the field of evaluation and evaluative knowledge is being mainstreamed and integrated into national planning frameworks.

In Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 17th to 19th September, the Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation (GPFE) organized a three-day event, EvalColombo2018, which aimed to : 1) promote the demand and use of evaluation by parliamentarians through dialogue and exchange; and 2) generate innovative approaches to addressing this issue at a global level.
